Handlebars, grips and levers for 125cc bikes

Your grips are the parts you've always got in your hands and that you control your bike with – so comfort and feel are really important. There are different rubber compounds: a harder compound gives you a more precise feel but wears or cracks sooner. With a softer compound, it's exactly the other way round.

Styling upgrades for your bars

Of course, there are countless different looks to suit your model. Orange grips, for example, would be the classic choice for a KTM Duke 125 or KTM RC 125 – and paired with orange CNC levers, that's the perfect combination.

motorbike handlebars

Or if you've got a Yamaha YZF-R 125 in Racing Blue, blue grips paired with blue CNC levers and a blue CNC brake reservoir cover would be a real head-turner! Grips are usually quick to change, too. Bear in mind that you can't reuse your old ones after swapping, because you'll usually have to cut them off. For the new grips, spray hairspray inside and simply slide them onto the bars – it takes about 15 minutes. BUT: let them dry properly. We've also got videos on YouTube on this topic that show you exactly how it's done.
The most popular grip brand is ProGrip, but there are also plenty of grips from other manufacturers such as Motoflow, Puig, LSL, Highsider and more.

Fitting

Fitting grips is really simple. First, the old grips have to come off. Unfortunately, on most bikes that's not possible without damaging or destroying the stock grips. A sharp craft knife is best for cutting them off.
The handlebar and throttle tube should then be cleaned thoroughly and freed of old glue or even grease. Make sure the cleaner has fully evaporated, otherwise the new grips won't hold.
The new grips should be cleaned too – best with a little brake cleaner sprayed right through the grips. Again: let them air off properly. Once all parts are clean, our go-to is hairspray – and the stickier, the better! Just spray plenty into the open ends of the grips, slide the grip onto the bar and twist it into position. Then, again, leave it to set – and the longer, the better. In the end, the grip will be rock-solid on the bar.
If the grips still turn, the hairspray hasn't fully dried and the adhesive hasn't set yet. In that case, simply pull the grip off again and re-spray it.

Change the look of your 125 with new handlebars

With your handlebars, you show your bike which direction you want to go. At the same time, the bars also shape the look of your 125, so swapping them can change the look of your bike considerably. Grips and levers in bright colours or with striking new curved shapes also emphasise the character of your 125. Want a lower, more tucked-in riding position, or higher bars on your enduro? It's all easily done with the right handlebars – and swapping them only takes a few simple steps.

Tips and advice on grips and levers

If you want to swap the grips and levers on your 125, there are a few things to bear in mind. Grips with a firmer rubber compound feel nice in the hand and give a very precise feel, but they wear faster than grips with a softer compound. Those don't crack as quickly, but the feel takes some getting used to. In the end, which grips and levers are right for you is also a matter of personal taste. There are loads of options to choose from – after all, these parts are styling elements that make a big difference to the look of your bike. Colourful grips and levers in the colour of your bike look especially cool and eye-catching. Alternatively, you can go for colours that contrast sharply with it. Let your imagination run wild and treat your bike to a very special restyle.
