Voltage regulators perform the important task on the vehicle of directing the charging current of the alternator from AC to DC voltage on one side. And to bring it to a voltage of 12-14 V that is compatible with the vehicle electrical system. Defective regulators usually manifest themselves by bulbs that burn out from time to time (regulation limitation no longer possible) or a permanently empty battery (rectifier burnt out).
