The rectifier or regulator changes the AC voltage generated in the alternator into the DC voltage of 12V used in the vehicle electrical system and keeps the voltage within a certain tolerance range. This charges the battery and ensures that light bulbs, for example, do not burn out.

As this component is exposed to very high temperatures, it often breaks down. If the rectifier or regulator is defective, the battery is constantly flat, with certain ignition systems the ignition system no longer works, bulbs burn out continuously or the headlights flicker.
